Օրենքով գողերը հանրության շրջանում հարգված ու սիրված դեմքեր են: Նրանք քրեական հեղինակություններ են, ովքեր հարգված ու սիրված են բոլորի կողմից: Նրանց կատարած ցանկացած քայլ հեղինակավոր արարք է դառնում հասարակության շրջանում:

Առաջին «վեհանձն հանցագործը», իր ծագմամբ` «գողերի» հայրը, ընդունված է համարել Միշկա Յապոնչիկին: Այն լեգենդար Յապոնչիկը, ով եղել է ոչ ավել, ոչ պակաս քաղաքացիական պատերազմի և խորհրդային հրամանատար: Քաղաքական հոդվածների համաձայն` նա 1908 թվականին ուղևորվել է տաժանակիր աշխատանքի և ազատ է արձակվել միայն 1917 թվականին` համաներմամբ: Գաղափարական նախկին անարխիստը վերադառնում է Օդեսսա «գողական Իվանի» հետ: Հենց նրա նմաններին էլ հետագայում «գողեր» են անվանում:
