Լուսանկարի համաշխարհային օրը տոնվում է ամեն տարի օգոստոսի 19-ին: Այն հիմնադրվել է 2009 թվականին ավստրալացի լուսանկարիչ Կորսկե Արայի նախաձեռնությամբ:

Տոնի ամսաթիվը ընտրվել է այն կապակցությամբ, որ 1839 թվականին այդ օրը լայն հանրությանը ներկայացվել է լուսանկարի ստացման մեթոդը՝ դագերոտիպիան, որը լուսանկարի նախատիպն է: Հայտնագործության հեղինակը Լուի Ժակու Մանդե Դագերան է, որից արտոնագիրը գնել էր Ֆրանսիայի կառավարությունը, որն էլ հայտարարեց նրա հայտնագործությունը որպես «նվեր աշխարհի համար»: Չէ որ Դագերի հայտնագործությունը դարձավ առաջին քայլ լուսանկարը համընդհանուր տեխնոլոգիագիա դարձնելու ճանապարհին:
