Նորվեգացի գիտնական Հանս Էյբերգի ղեկավարած խումբը անսպասելի բացահայտում է կատարել։ Նրանք բացահայտել են, որ աշխարհի բոլոր կապուտաչյա մարդկանց նախնին միևնույն մարդն է։

Ինչպես հայտնի է, առաջին մարդիկ հայտնվել են Աֆրիկայում։ Նրանք ունեցել են մուգ գույնի աչքեր։ Այդ իսկ պատճառով շագանակագույն աչքերը գերակշռող են։ Կապույտ աչքերն առաջացել են HERC2 գենային մուտացիայի արդյունքում, որի պատճառով նվազել է մելանինի արտադրության քանակը։

Գիտնականների հաշվարկով՝ նման մուտացիայով առաջին մարդն ի հայտ է եկել 7-10 հազ․ տարի առաջ։ Իսկ նրանից ծնվել են կապուտաչյա հետնորդները։
