Վախճանվել է Հայոց ցեղասպանությունը վերապրած վերջին անձանցից մեկը՝ 112-ամյա Մերի Վարդանյանը, հայտնել է նրա թոռնուհի Նատալի Վարդանյանը։

Մերի Ուզքուշյանը ծնվել է Այնթապում, պատմական Կիլիկիայում, 1914 թվականի օգոստոսի 17-ին։ 

Նրա ընտանիքը մասամբ խուսափել է տեղահանությունից՝ շնորհիվ հորական զարմիկի՝ բժիշկ Կարապետ Եսայանի պաշտպանության, որի ընտանիքը օգնեց Ուզքուշյաններին փախչել Հալեպ 1920-ականների սկզբին՝ թողնելով իրենց տունը և գրեթե ամբողջ ունեցվածքը։ Նրա հայրը ջրաղացպան է եղել, որը աղացած ցորեն է արտադրել։

Մերի Վարդանյանը մեծացել է հայերեն, թուրքերեն, իսկ ավելի ուշ՝ արաբերեն խոսելով, և սովորել է Այնթապի ոճով գորգեր հյուսել, կարել և գործել, արհեստ, որը հետագայում նրան օգնել է Հալեպում ապրուստ վաստակել։ Տարիներ անց նրա ձեռագործ աշխատանքների նմուշները ցուցադրվել են Կիլիկիայի կաթողիկոսության թանգարանում՝ Անթիլիասում, Լիբանան։
