Երկուշաբթիից սկսած՝ Միացյալ Նահանգները օգնություն կցուցաբերի Հորմուզի նեղուցում արգելափակված և այնտեղից հեռանալու փորձ անող նավերին, հայտարարել է ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը։

ԱՄՆ նախագահը հավելել է, որ Միացյալ Նահանգներն օգնություն կցուցաբերի Վաշինգտոնի և Թեհրանի միջև հակամարտությանը չմասնակցող երկրների նավերին։ Նա նաև ընդգծել է, որ այդ նավերը չեն վերադառնա Հորմուզի նեղուց, մինչև իրանական ճգնաժամը չլուծվի։

Գործողությունը սկսելու որոշումը կայացվել է երրորդ երկրների դիմումներից հետո, որոնք խնդրել են ազատել իրենց նավերն արգելափակված ծովային միջանցքից, ասել է Թրամփը:

ԱՄՆ նախագահի խոսքով՝ դա մարդասիրական գործողություն է, քանի որ արգելափակված նավերի նավաստիները հաճախ տառապում են սովից և այլ խնդիրներից։ Թրամփը գործողությունն անվանել է «Ազատության նախագիծ» և կոչ է արել չխանգարել դրա իրականացմանը:
