Բոլոր ժամանակներում էլ մեղավորները պատժվել են: Եվ պատժիչ միջոցները եղել են շատ բազմազան: Բայց աշխարհում գոյություն ունի կախաղանի մի տեսակ՝  Լինչի անվանումով, որն առանց վարանելու կարելի է  համարել  առավել սարսափելին:

Լինչին անվանում են  նաև «ծովային տեգի խայթոց» կամ «մահ՝ հազար կտրվածքներով»: Լինչի ժամանակ մեղավորի մարմնից կտրում-հանում էին տարբեր մասեր,և այս տանջանքը բավականին երկար էր տևում:  Այս պատիժը սկիզբ է առել  Չինաստանում Ցին թագավորի օրոք:  «Հազար կտրվածքներով մահ»-ը կիրառել են դեռևս միջնադարում մինչև 1905 թվականը: Այսպիսի պատժամիջոց կիրառել են  հիմնականում հայրասպանների և հայրենիքը դավաճանողների դեմ:  Պատահում էին նաև դեպքեր, երբ կախաղանի ժամանակ հանցագործին մասնավորապես ափիոն էին տալիս: Սա հնարավորություն էր տալիս  երկարաձգել դաժան խոշտանգումները: Ափիոնի ազդեցության շնորհիվ զոհը սկսում էր ծիծաղել և այդպիսով ցավն ավելի քիչ էր զգացվում:
