Վանուատուի ափերի մոտ գտնվող Կորալյան ծովում 6.3 մագնիտուդով երկրաշարժ է տեղի ունեցել, հաղորդում է «Ինտերֆաքս»-ը՝ հղում անելով Ռուսաստանի գիտությունների ակադեմիայի «Միասնական երկրաֆիզիկական ծառայություն» դաշնային հետազոտական ​​կենտրոնի Ալթայ-Սայանի մասնաճյուղին։

Սեյսմոլոգների տվյալներով՝ բնական աղետը գրանցվել է Մոսկվայի ժամանակով ժամը 5:30-ին։ Դրա էպիկենտրոնը գտնվում էր Վանուատուի մաս կազմող Տաննա կղզուց մոտավորապես 3 կմ արևելք և երկրի մայրաքաղաքից 205 կմ հարավ-արևելք։ Ստորգետնյա ցնցումների ուժգնության հիման վրա երկրաշարժը գնահատվել է որպես «ավերիչ»։

ԱՄՆ երկրաբանական ծառայությունը հայտնել է, որ երկրաշարժի էպիկենտրոնը գտնվում էր 10 կմ խորության վրա։ Ամերիկացի փորձագետները պնդում են, որ ցնցումների ուժգնությունը կազմել է 6.1 մագնիտուդ։
