Ինչպես պնդում են Օսթինի և Տեխասի համալսարանների մասնագետները, որքան հաճախ են երեխային հարվածում, այնքան մեծ է հավանականությունը, որ նա ապագայում լուրջ խնդիրներ կարող է ունենալ հոգեկան առողջության հետ և ագրեսիվ վարք կդրսևորի: Հետազոտությունը անց է կացվել 50 տարվա ընթացքում, դրանց մասնակցել է մոտ 160 հզ մարդ:

 

Հախաճ ծնողները համարում են, որ փոքրիկ պատիժը լավ պրոֆիլակտիկա է երեխայի համար, բայց իրականում հետևանքները կարող են շատ վատը լինել: Ի դեպ, դաստիարակության նման մեթոդի հակված են այն ծնողները, որոնց մանուկ հասակում հարվածել են:
