Օրական 3 բաժակ կամ ավելի ալկոհոլային խմիչք օգտագործելը կարող է դառնալ ենթաստամոքսային գեղձի քաղցկեղի առաջացման պատճառ։
 
Ալկոհոլի չարաշահումը կարող է նաև հանգեցնել բերանի խոռոչի, ըմպանի, կոկորդի, լյարդի, ստամոքսի ու կրծքի քաղցկեղի առաջացմանը։ Ամերիկյան ուռուցքաբանական հանրությունն ապացուցել է մեծ քանակությամբ ալկոհոլի օգտագործման ու քաղցկեղի առաջացման կապը՝ 24 տարի շարունակ միլիոնավոր հիվանդների մոտկատարած հետազոտության արդյունքներով։
 
Ապացուցվել է, որ 3 կամ ավելի բաժակ թունդ ալկոհոլային խմիչքը, բայց ոչ գարեջուրն ու գինին, նպաստում են ենթաստամոքսային գեղձի ուռուցքի առաջացմանը կանանց ու տղամարդկանց մոտ։ Այն մարդկանց մոտ, ովքեր երբեք չեն ծխել, ռիսկը կազմում է 36 տոկոս՝ մահվան ելքով։ 
 
Բժիշկները եզրակացրել են, որ ալկոհոլիզմը մեծապես վնասում է առողջությանը՝ մինչև անգամ հանգեցնում քաղցկեղի առաջացման։
