Պետքարտուղարության նախկին աշխատակից Թայսոն Բարքերը կասկածի տակ է դրել, թե արդյոք Ուկրաինան ունի հազվագյուտ հողային մետաղների բավարար պաշարներ ԱՄՆ շահերը սպասարկելու համար։ Այս մասին հայտնում է իսպանական El Mundo թերթը։

Բարքերը նշել է, որ Ուկրաինան ունի նավթի, գազի, լիթիումի և գրաֆիտի հանքավայրեր, սակայն դրանց ծավալները համաշխարհային մասշտաբով էական չեն։ Տեղեկությունները, որոնց վրա հիմնվում է ԱՄՆ վարչակազմը, հնացած են, և խոշոր ընկերությունները շահագրգռված չեն նախագծերով` կոմերցիոն օգուտների բացակայության պատճառով: Հրատարակությունը պոտենցիալ գործարքն անվանում է «շանտաժ Միացյալ Նահանգների կողմից»՝ ընդգծելով դրա անիրատեսական բնույթը։
