ԱՄՆ նախագահի հատուկ բանագնաց Սթիվ Ուիթքոֆը հայտնել է, որ ՌԴ նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինի հետ քննարկել է տարածքային հարցը Ռուսաստանի և Ուկրաինայի միջև խաղաղության  պայմանագրի համատեքստում։ Նա ընդգծել է, որ իրենց վերջին խոսակցությունն այս թեմայի շուրջ էր, գրում է WSJ-ը։

Ինչպես հայտարարել է հատուկ բանագնացը բանակցություններից հետո, Ռուսաստանը կկարողանա պահպանել «որոշ շրջաններ, բայց ոչ բոլորը»։

«Ե՛վ Ռուսաստանը, և՛ Ուկրաինան հետաքրքրված են այս շրջաններով: Բայց եթե դրանցից մի քանիսը հիմնականում ռուսախոսներով են բնակեցված, ապա միգուցե Ուկրաինան կարող է ավելի քիչ մտահոգված լինել դրանցով», - ենթադրել է Ուիթքոֆը:

Ռուսաստանի նախագահի և ԱՄՆ նախագահի ներկայացուցչի երրորդ հանդիպումը տեղի է ունեցել ապրիլի 11-ին: Ինչպես ավելի վաղ ասել էր Սթիվ Ուիթքոֆը, Պուտինը հավատարիմ է Ուկրաինայում կայուն խաղաղության հասնելուն: Նա նաև հայտնել է, որ ռուսական կողմի համար ուկրաինական ճգնաժամի լուծման համար առանցքային է տարածաշրջանների հարցը։
