Եմենի մայրաքաղաք Սանան վերահսկող հուսիները արտակարգ դրություն են հայտարարել՝ այստեղ մոլեգնող ժանտախտի համաճարակի պատճառով, որին արդեն ավելի քան 115 մարդ է զոհ գնացել:
 
Կարմիր խաչի միջազգային կոմիտեի ներկայացուցիչ Դոմինիկ Ստիլհարթի վկայությամբ՝ երկրի ևս 14 նահանգներում գրանցվել է ժանտախտով վարակման ավելի քան 8500 դեպք, իսկ հաշվի առնելով փաստը, որ մեկ շաբաթ առաջ այդ թիվը 2300–ն էր, նշանակում է՝ շտապ միջոցներ պիտի ձեռք առնվեն: Նույն աղբյուրի փոխանցմամբ՝ Եմենի հիվանդանոցները գերբեռնված են և չեն կարողանում հաղթահարել ծանրաբեռնվածությունը:
