Երբ ավազե ծովափը կայծակահարվում է, կարելի է ասել՝ հրաշք է տեղի ունենում. ստեղծվում են ապակե քանդակներ: Բազմիցս է պատահել, որ զբոսաշրջիկները ծովափի ավազը փորելով տարօրինակ գոյացություններ են գտել, իսկ պատճառն արդեն պարզ է:

Կայծակն ունի առնվազն 1,800 աստիճան ցելսիուս տաքություն, իսկ դա բավական է քվարցով կամ սիցիլիումով հարուստ ավազն ապակու վերածելու համար: Սովորաբար ապակե գոյացություններն ունենում են կամ ծառի արմատի կամ էլ խողովակների տեսք, ու նաև շատ փխրուն են, քանի որ ընդամենը մի քանի վայրկյանում չեն հասցնում լիարժեք թրծվել:
