«Մենք եվրոպացի զինվորներ չենք ուղարկի Ուկրաինա: Մենք չենք ցանկանում պատերազմ Ռուսաստանի ու ՆԱՏՕ-ի միջև և կանենք ամեն ինչ դա կանխելու համար», - ասել է Շոլցը Հռոմում՝ ելույթ ունենալով Եվրոպական սոցիալիստների կուսակցության համագումարում: 

Արևմտյան գործընկերների համար, նրա խոսքով, հստակ է, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ն՝ որպես ամբողջություն, և դաշինքի անդամ երկրներից ոչ մեկը չպետք է դառնա հակամարտության կողմ։ 

Միաժամանակ նա ԵՄ-ին կոչ է արել ավելի շատ ներդրումներ կատարել սեփական անվտանգության և պաշտպանության համար։
