Պետդեպարտամենտի ներկայացուցիչը հայտարարել է, որ Ռուսաստանի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը հետ չի ստանա Ալյասկան, որն ԱՄՆ-ին վաճառվել է 19-րդ դարում։

«Կարծում եմ՝ ԱՄՆ կառավարությունում բոլորի անունից կարող եմ ասել, որ նա (Ռուսաստանի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը) այն հետ չի ստանա», - ասել է ԱՄՆ-ի պետդեպարտամենտի մամուլի քարտուղարի առաջին տեղակալ Վեդանտ Պատելը։

Նա այսպես է արձագանքել լրագրողներից մեկի պնդմանն առ այն, որ Պուտինը, իբր, հրամանագիր է ստորագրել, որով Ալյասկայի վաճառքն անվանել է «անօրինական»։ Ընդ որում, լրագրողը շփոթել է պատմական գործարքի ամսաթիվը՝ 1867-ի փոխարեն ասելով1983 թ.:

Հարցը կարող է կապված լինել Պուտինի այն հրամանագրի հետ, որը կարգադրում է միջոցներ  հատկացրել արտասահմանում Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության, նախկին Ռուսական կայսրության և ԽՍՀՄ օտարերկրյա անշարժ գույքի իրավական պաշտպանության համար:
