«20-րդ դարում ադրբեջանական հողերը մաս-մաս փոխանցվեցին Հայաստանին», տեղական լրատվամիջոցներին տված հարցազրույցում ասել է Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիևը։
 
«1918 թվականին՝ Ադրբեջանի Դեմոկրատական ​​Հանրապետության ստեղծումից մեկ օր անց, Իրևան քաղաքը, ցավոք, փոխանցվեց Հայաստանին։ Չնայած սրա համար պատճառ չկար։ Սա հնագույն ադրբեջանական քաղաք է։ Ադրբեջանական ժողովուրդն այնտեղ ապրել է դարեր շարունակ։ Իրևանի ջնջված պատմական տեսքն այսօր հաստատում է ադրբեջանական դարավոր ճարտարապետական ​​ժառանգության առկայությունը։ Իրևանն այն քաղաքներից է, որտեղ ասես հին քաղաք չկա, ուղղակի ադրբեջանական քաղաք էր, որը քանդեցին ու ավերեցին»,- ասել է նա։
 
Ալիևն ասել է, թե «1918-ին ընդունված որոշումը մեծ պատմական հանցագործություն էր, ոչ թե սխալ, այլ հանցագործություն»:
