1996-ի դեկտեմբերի 17-ին մոտ երկու տարի առաջ կասեցված դաշնակցությունը երեւանում տոնում է կուսակցության հիմնադրման 106-ամյակը:

1997-ի դեկտեմբերի 17-ին նախագահ Տեր-Պետրոսյանը մտավորականների հետ հանդիպման ժամանակ ասում է, որ հայ ժողովրդից պահանջվում է խենթություն չանել: անկախ հայաստանում ազգի առաջնորդությունը տրված է պետությանը: տարբեր շքանշաններով նախագահը պարգեւատրում է Օհան Դուրյանին, Հրանտ Մաթեւոսյանին, Սոս Սարգսյանին:

Սակայն Միացյալ Նահանգները ոչ մի կապ չունեն 1998-ի այս օրը նախագահի նստավայրի մոտ հավաքված կույրերի խնդիրների հետ: նրանք այստեղ են զուտ անձնական խնդիրներով՝ լրիվ ավելորդ են կարծում իրենց:
