Ռուսաստանի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Պուտինը աֆրիկյան պատվիրակության հետ բանակցությունների ժամանակ ասել է, որ Ռուսաստանի Դաշնությունը գործել է ՄԱԿ-ի կանոնադրության համաձայն և իրավունք ունի ճանաչել չորս նոր շրջանների անկախությունը, այնուհետև պաշտպանել դրանք։ Աֆրիկայի առաջնորդների հետ հանդիպումը հեռարձակվել է Կրեմլի տելեգրամյան ալիքով։

«ՄԱԿ-ի կանոնադրության 51-րդ հոդվածի համաձայն՝ մենք իրավունք ունեինք օգնելու նրանց՝ հղում կատարելով ինքնապաշտպանության մասին կետին։ Հարգելի գործընկերներ, այս տրամաբանությունը կատարյալ է միջազգային իրավունքի և ՄԱԿ-ի կանոնադրության տեսանկյունից»,- ասել է Պուտինը։

Ռուսաստանի ղեկավարը նաեւ նշել է, որ Ուկրաինայում բոլոր խնդիրներն սկսվել են 2014 թվականի պետական, հակասահմանադրական, զինված հեղաշրջումից հետո:

«Ուկրաինայում բոլոր խնդիրներն սկսվել են 2014 թվականի պետական, հակասահմանադրական, զինված և արյունալի հեղաշրջումից հետո: Եվ այս հեղաշրջումն աջակցվեց արևմտյան հովանավորների կողմից: Նրանք չեն էլ վարանում խոսել այդ մասին»,- նշել է նա:
