95 տարեկան հասակում վախճանվել է Հռոմի պաշտոնաթող Պապ Բենեդիկտոս XVI-ը։

Հռոմի պապ Ֆրանցիսկոսը դեկտեմբերի 28-ին հավատացյալներին խնդրել էր աղոթել իր «շատ հիվանդ» նախորդի համար՝ ասելով. «Ես կցանկանայի ձեզ բոլորիդ խնդրել հատուկ աղոթք անել պատվավոր Պապ Բենեդիկտոսի համար, ով լռության մեջ աջակցում է եկեղեցուն: Հիշեցնում եմ ձեզ, որ նա շատ հիվանդ է։ Խնդրենք Տիրոջը, որ մխիթարի և սատարի նրան»։

Գերմանացի կարդինալ, ականավոր աստվածաբան Յոզեֆ Ռատցինգերը պապական գահ է բարձրացել 2005 թվականին՝ իր նախորդ Հովհաննես Պողոս II-ի մահից հետո՝ ընդունելով Բենեդիկտոս XVI անունը։ 2013 թվականին նա դարձել է վերջին 600 տարվա ընթացքում առաջին պոնտիֆիկոսը, որը հրաժարվել է պապական աթոռից։ Բենեդիկտոսը, որն այդ ժամանակ 85 տարեկան էր, իր որոշումը բացատրել է Հռոմի կաթոլիկ եկեղեցին ղեկավարելու համար ուժերի անբավարարությամբ։ Բենեդիկտոս XVI-ն ապրում է Վատիկանի տարածքում։
