Թուրքիայի ռազմաօդային ուժերի 111-ամյակի կապակցությամբ երկրի պաշտպանության նախարար Հուլուսի Աքարն ընդունել է ռազմաօդային ուժերի հրամանատար գեներալ Հասան Քյուչուքաքյուզին և նրան ուղեկցող ռազմաօդային ուժերի հրամանատարության անձնակազմին։

Թուրքիայի ազգային պաշտպանության նախարար Հուլուսի Աքարը հանդիպման ժամանակ հայտնել է, որ F-16 կործանիչների վերաբերյալ ԱՄՆ-Թուրքիա բանակցությունները դրական են անցել:

«Մենք որոշակի ընթացակարգով աշխատել ենք Blok 70 Viper-ների ձեռք բերման և մեր մյուս ինքնաթիռների արդիականացման համար։ Մենք հավատում ենք, որ մեր դաշնակից ԱՄՆ-ն նույնպես կբավարարի Թուրքիայի կարիքն այս հարցում։ Հավաքական պաշտպանության և փոխգործունակության առումով, կարծում եմ, դա չի անտեսվի ԱՄՆ վարչակազմի կողմից: Որովհետև և՛ Թուրքիա եկող ԱՄՆ պատվիրակությունների հետ ունեցած հանդիպումները, և՛ ԱՄՆ մեկնող պատվիրակության շփումները կոնգրեսականների հետ դրական մթնոլորտում են եղել, և հիմք է ստեղծվել շփումները շարունակելու համար»,- ասել է Աքարը:

Թուրքիան 40 միավոր F-16 կործանիչ գնելու և իր 80 ամերիկյան կործանիչներն արդիականացնելու հարցով դիմել է ԱՄՆ-ին:
